Due to the close geographical proximities of neighbouring countries and the numerous invasions throughout history, Britain is made up of a range of accents. Because of its ever increasing ethnical diversity there are now also becoming modern day influences.

Accents are important; they characterise us as individuals, communities and act as marks of our social statuses.

This book, written and designed for the British Library, focuses on individuals who’s accents have changed as part of 283 conversations about language, recorded by the BBC in 2005.
